Common questions

What is the DEAS score?

The Desk Ergonomics Assessment Score, Desk Doctor's product rating out of 10. Every product is scored on eleven dimensions in three layers: clinical performance, product quality and value. For smart bulbs, the category-specific part is adjustability and spectrum control: how wide the color temperature range is, how finely it dims, and whether you can schedule changes. Tap any row in the ranking for the full breakdown. How we score.

When does the assessment suggest a smart bulb?

When your lighting feels too bright or too dim: a dimmable or adjustable smart bulb in the fixture you already have is one of the fixes it offers. Aim for roughly 300 to 500 lux at the desk; a free light meter app on your phone will tell you where you are.

Smart bulb or desk lamp?

Often both. A smart bulb sets the room; a desk lamp lights the task. OSHA's guidance for computer work is well-distributed, diffuse room light, plus task lighting for reading and writing that keeps brightness away from the monitor.1

How often is this ranking updated?

Scores are refreshed as products are revised and new models are scored. The ranking always reflects the current DEAS data.

Are these affiliate links?

Some are, which means Desk Doctor may earn a commission at no cost to you. Rankings are set by DEAS score alone and are never influenced by commissions.
